On 02/20/2026, Mr. Carlos Vargas Venegas successfully defended his PhD thesis, “A Unified Control-Theoretic Framework for Physics-Infused Reduced-Order Modeling and Optimal Closed-Loop Control”.
Carlos’ work represents the unique combination of physics-data infusion aspect of our research group. Some of his research have been summarized in this post, and see more work, e.g., here and here. His work is the key element in our NSF CAREER Award. Carlos’ work has been supported by Sandia National Lab.
Carlos is the third PhD student to graduate from our group.
